When mixed with water, cement undergoes chemical reactions—known as hydration—that cause it to harden and bind with other materials like sand and gravel, forming concrete, mortar, or plaster. The manufacturing process of cement begins with the extraction and crushing of raw materials, followed by precise proportioning and grinding to create a uniform raw meal. This meal is then heated at very high temperatures in a rotary kiln, leading to the formation of clinker—small, hard nodules. After cooling, the clinker is ground with gypsum, which helps regulate the setting time, producing the final powdered cement ready for packaging and distribution.
